Privacy policy
This policy explains what we collect when you use UK Help Finder, why, and what control you have. It is written to be read, not to be skipped.
The short version
- You do not need an account, and we do not ask who you are.
- Nothing you type into a calculator or checker is stored or sent to anyone.
- No analytics or advertising cookie is set unless you agree first.
- We do not sell data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

What we collect
Things we cannot avoid
Our server records standard request information so the site can work and stay secure: the page requested, the time, the browser type and the network address the request came from. These logs are kept for a short period and are used for diagnosing faults and blocking abuse.
Your cookie choice
When you accept or reject cookies we record the choice itself, the time, the version of the policy you were shown, a random identifier stored in your browser, and a one-way hash of your network address. We keep this as evidence that a choice was made. The hash cannot be turned back into an address, and we do not store your address alongside it.
If you send us a message
When you use our contact form we store your name, email address, the message and the page it is about, together with a one-way hash of your network address to help us block abuse. We use this only to read and reply to your message. We delete messages after 12 months, or sooner if you ask.
The form's robot check runs entirely in your browser. It does not set cookies and does not contact any other company.
What we deliberately do not collect
Calculator and checker inputs are never stored. Figures you enter — income, rent, savings, household details — are used to produce your result and then discarded. They are not written to our database, not included in error reports, and not sent to any third party. Our error monitoring is configured to strip request contents entirely, and to discard a report altogether if it still looks like it contains them.
Cookies
We set a small number of cookies that are necessary for the site to work: your cookie choice itself, and a session cookie with a security token that protects forms from being submitted by other websites.
Analytics and advertising cookies are only set if you agree. Full detail is on our cookie page, where you can also change your mind at any time.
Third parties
If you agree to analytics, Google Analytics receives information about the pages you view. If you agree to advertising, Google's advertising service may set cookies and receive information used to select and measure ads. Until you agree, these services are not loaded at all — no request is made to them.
Our fonts and images are served from our own servers, so no third party is contacted simply because you opened a page.
Legal basis
We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website for the request logs and for replying to messages you send us, and on your consent for analytics and advertising. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time and it is as easy to refuse as to accept.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
In practice we hold very little that could identify you: we have no accounts, and the only personal details we keep are those in messages you choose to send us. To ask what we hold or to have a message deleted, use the contact form.
Children
This site is written for adults looking for support. We do not knowingly collect information from children and we do not target advertising at them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data in a way that affects your choices, we will update this page and ask for your cookie choice again rather than carrying over consent you gave to an older policy.
